Your Energy Budget American’s are becoming more aware of finances, investing, spending, savings, frugality and the associated art of budgeting. With the overwhelming mass consciousness of the world financial market we constantly hear information about what is perceived to be happening with the economy. There’s as much ‘talk’ out there as there are situations for resolving the issues. This week some situations came into my life that showed me an awareness of where my energy was going. In the past I would push and shove, whine and complain about what was happening. I used to cry out, “Why me? I don’t deserve this!” With much more calmness and coolness I was able to step back and perceive more clearly what was really going on. And you know what? I discovered it wasn’t really about me. So I was able to plug that energy leak, relax, breathe and let it go. In doing so I felt my energy, both spiritually and physically, return to balance. I wasn’t in a place of resentment, fear or worry any more. Cool, huh? As we receive the vibrations of the world market, news media, our work place, schools, friends and family, we use our energy. It’s just how we function. We cannot change the fact that the Universe and we are giving and receiving energy constantly. Vibrational energy is what we use to create our circumstances and our life. We receive vibrations through our chakras, and the energy around us as well as the energy others’ send out that our energy field touches. Vibrational energy also comes in through the top of our heads and travels down the spinal column and spinal cord. This energy is what runs our bodies and tells them what to do. The Law of Attraction tells us that like attracts like. As we think, feel emotions and speak words of doubt, fear, and uncertainty we are attracting that. When we shift that to confidence, knowing, faith and belief, we attract that to us. Thoughts of illness, pain and muscle tension attract what? More of the same! Thinking we are healthy, whole and relaxed brings us….that!
How do you spend your energy quota? Diet, sleep, exercise, and relaxation, are some ways we can balance our physical energy. Our emotional energy comes in the form of feelings and emotions. Our mental energy is a result of our minds’ action and/or reaction. In other words - our thoughts. Sound familiar to you? For this week, spend some time (and yes, energy) tracking where your energy goes. Be aware as you move through your day how you feel both physically, mentally and emotionally. All three are indicator’s of energy expenditures.
1. As you’re talking on the phone, how do you feel? Does the position of the receiver hurt your neck? Do you ’crick’ the phone sideways so you can work and still talk? When you’re watching TV how are you sitting? Are you ‘slouched’ or comfortable. Furniture that is supportive to your body as well as restful will nurture your tendons, ligaments, musculature, including your spine. As you do physical work around the house or your job, how does your body feel? Tension, muscle pain, headache, numbness, cramping, or a ‘Charlie-horse’ are all signs that as your body is not in balance; it is expending extra energy in order to keep functioning. As that requirement continues, the energy must come from somewhere. If you’re mowing the lawn and your heart is pounding, you’re sweating and feel worn out, for goodness sake stop! You know that your energy (blood sugar) level is low. You know to stop, go get some nourishment before you continue on. You need more energy. 2. Be aware of your conversations. If you’re at work are you confident in what you’re saying in regards to your position? When I trained chiropractic assistants in our clinic I implemented scripts for answering the more common patient questions. This gave the assistant confidence about the usual responses. Otherwise, there might be fear of what to say, how to say it and if it’s going to be appropriate. When talking with a friend, are you listening to their issues and problems? Is the conversation fun and uplifting or is it stressful, about gossip, rumors, or chitchat. Listening to a barrage of constant complaining will bring you down about as fast as anything.
3. Monitor what you watch on TV. Are the shows fun, is the news stressful as you listen to the bad stuff that happened throughout the day? I recall in the movie “The Secret” a lady who received a cancer diagnosis. She brought her body to health by watching comedy movies. She laughed and laughed all day long. She would not permit any negativity, sadness, fear or anger to enter her energy. And know what? She got over the cancer! Horror movies, killing, disasters cause our brains to release harmful endorphins and/or hormones that are similar to the fight or flight emotional releases. Observe what you read throughout the day and evening. Reading the newspaper with its repeated doom and gloom you just watched on TV? If you read mysteries or murder books, those same hormones are being sent out to your body that we just discussed. 4. What part of your energy is spent on the past? An ex-partner, your children, your career, past hurts, old childhood wounds, teen-age distress with finding your way in high school or college, the offenses of co-workers, the list can go on and on. Personally I used a lot of my energy in the past on grudges. I held on to old grudges for years! In fact I could’ve taught ‘Grudging 101”. The joy and freedom I now experience without that old stuff is amazing. It took awhile but I’m making great progress. I’m able to say, “Oh well, that was then and this is now.”
An energy budget is a practical strategy for success. In financial budgets we track our income; with energy we track our energy capacity. We may have increased income and decreased expenditures or decreased income and increased expenditures. It’s the exact same with our energy.
Here are some steps to begin to balance your energetic budget. 1. First make a list of where you see your energy escaping. Refer to the ideas I shared with you earlier. Be specific with names and situations, followed by a brief description of the situation. Make it quick, so you don’t get sucked into letting today’s energy leak back to the past. 2. Now destroy that list. Tear it up into little pieces and throw it in the garbage or burn it. Get rid of it! Out of your sight, out of your mind, gone! A ceremony is good because by physically ridding yourself of this list in a memorable way leads you to easily follow the last step. 3. Whenever you recall one of these situations, visualize the letting go of it. If you’ve burned that list, visualize the flames taking that situation as it burned, recall the smoke taking that old, congested energy up in the sky, back to be ‘recycled’ for use by the Universe. Some situations in life are easier than others to let go of. Traditionally ? The deeper the hurt, the more our ego wants to hold onto it. That just gives us an excuse to not move forward in our life. Does this simple tool sound familiar? “We call it forgiveness.” “It is easy enough to be friendly to one’s friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion.” -Mahatma Gandhi |
