What Are You Thinking?

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

This week-end my husband and I took a short road trip. With the state of the economy, the forecast for a financial boost from the tourism in our area of northwest Montana as been rather bleak, by news reporting standards. We were excited to see so many people on the road from out of town. All along the way were visitors enjoying our country, its sights and beauty. In one small town, a family restaurant had at least ten cars there for breakfast. Further along, one of the most popular attractions is the Kootenai River Falls and the swinging bridge. At mid-morning the parking lot was nearly full. Another 50 miles and it was the same; pull-out spots with recreational vehicles parked, gas stations and mini stores with plenty of customers. Looked to me like the economy is doing great up our way!

So what I want to share today with you is this: What is your attitude? How do you view this upsurge of visitors? Are you vibrating your energy towards abundance or are you thinking of work, drudgery, or lack?

At the local latte shop, we waited in line for five cars ahead of us. I was excited because I know the owner, a hard-working gal, who saw a vision for expansion when she bought the business. We commented on how busy she was and her employee’s reply?

“Yeah, it’s crazy busy, not too bad though.” Hmmm.

On down the highway to the gas station, waiting in line to purchase tea and hubby a maple bar, I heard the attendant’s reply: “I’d much rather be out at the lake with the guys.” Yeah, all these people in here suck!” Small businesses, book stores, souvenir & gift shops, and many restaurants were all closed because it was Sunday, their day off.

Now I’m sensing two things here. First, as an owner of several small independent businesses in my life, I know that you must “get ‘em while they’re hot“. In sales lingo that means that while the tourists are in town, you should be available for them. Hubby and I commented that perhaps shop owners should rethink their own day off schedule to accommodate the flow of customers. Why not take a mid-week day to be closed, rather than the week-end when every one is out and about?

My second realization was the attitude and talk of the employees. Is it really bad to be busy? I don’t believe their employer’s think so. As manager of my husband’s chiropractic clinic for many years, I stressed to our assistant’s the importance of thoughts and words. When you feel that being busy is too much for you, or not a good thing, then what happens? You get to be “not busy“. And what happens when business is slow; you may lose your job!

My point is, that when we really pay attention to what and how we say things, how we think about our work and business, there’s a lot we can improve upon. Again I remind each of you about the Law of Attraction. This Universal Law that always is and never changes: that which you think about, talk about, read about, listen to is what you bring to your life experience. It doesn’t matter whether it’s something you really want, or something that you don’t want, it’s still attracted to you.

I suggest that as you go about your daily routine the next several days, do a hourly “mind-set check”. How are you feeling? Are you having fun? Is the day going by quickly or dragging slowly, to you? How is your stress level? Are you smiling at all, or is your face scrunched in a frown? If you’re feeling stressed, worried, overloaded or not happy, take a five second time out. Breathe in deeply, hold, and exhale. Just let yourself be for a second or two. Relax your face and shoulders, breathe one more deep breath, exhale and continue with your day.

The Teachings of Abraham with Esther Hicks in their book “Ask & It Is Given” give us a set of absolutely wonderful processes to help us achieve happiness and joy. One of these is the “Segment Intending” process. As you go through the various segments or sections of your day, stop a moment to choose how to proceed. Giving yourself a moment to think of how good it could be helps to pave the way, to smooth the bumps in the road of life.

For example, if you have a meeting with your boss, before proceeding, take a few seconds to visualize how you’d like the meeting to go. A lunch date with a friend who is a chronic complainer will go much smoother, when you take a few seconds to think how nice it would be if he/she were cheerful today. Preparing to leave work and face the usual rush hour traffic, intend that travel tonight is smooth and flowing. You may get a sense to take a different route, or an early exit from the freeway. Listen to this nudge from your Inner Self to guide you and bring you a care free drive home.

I wish each of you a wonderful, happy, healthy, abundant week.

Love, Light and Blessings,

Donna Rae
