Recently I attended an open discussion group where we gather on a monthly basis. All are welcome and there is no established topic. Our facilitator brings forth a thought from which we begin. It’s kind of like a brainstorming session, only way more fun! We begin from that one place and the evening amazingly and beautifully evolves into that which we all are needing to hear.

Embracing all of life is where she began our dialogue. As we shared what that means individually, we realized many variations. Embracing life can mean accepting things just as they are. I must admit that initially I felt that embracing a situation means that we recognize the negative in it and thereby give it energy, often unknowingly. As I am writing this I have learned so much about the true, divine gift of embracing the now.

Whether it relates to our jobs, our partners, children, family members, finances, community relationships, embracing situations is a vast concept. And as we acknowledge that perhaps our physical bodily functions are not what we desire, the first step is to accept. Living in the now is another example of embracing life. When we are experiencing physical dis-ease, as we recognize the chance it is bringing us to receive clearer understanding, we can embrace that time and grow from it.

The dictionary defines embrace as to hug somebody; “to hug somebody in your arms affectionately or passionately, or hug each other affectionately or passionately.” Hmmm, an interesting concept; to affectionately hug your body. Your feelings, your desires, along with your loved ones, friends and family, in fact each and every part of life. As we examine our spiritual path and soul’s journey realizing where we are right now, we learn to embrace that place.

Embrace can also mean to make use of something: “to welcome and take advantage of something eagerly or willingly“. In other words to embrace an opportunity. Lots of people are experiencing financial challenges and economic downturns. I am told that this is a chance for us to release what we were that didn’t serve our best interests. I hear of many people who are “re-inventing” who they are through self-employment, other job opportunities. Often as they lose their jobs, they see this as an opportunity to do what they always wanted to do but were afraid to try. As they adopt and take up a new vision, the future is more clearly defined to them.

Webster’s Dictionary further defines embracing “as to adopt or take up something, especially a belief or way of life.” As I embrace my life’s desires I am taking up a belief. Part of creating a new situation, is to believe that it can become reality for me. I will embrace those new beliefs and include them in my Book of Personal Laws. To comprise newness, I now begin to include that something as part of my whole being. Another definition of embracing is to surround something: “to surround or enclose something (literary) (often passive).” Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 1998-2005 Microsoft Corporation. As we begin to embrace each moment of each day in our lives, this doesn’t mean that we accept what we experience as “just the way it is.” Absolutely not! Embracing the moment, enfold You in your arms, lovingly, caringly, adopt your beauty, and take up God’s gift to you.

So right now, put your arms around yourself

and give yourself a big hug!

Embrace You!
