Montana Healing Connections

Dear Friends:

The Easter holiday has come and gone and the spring season is officially here. As we’ve each celebrated the official arrival of spring, here in Montana we’ll take your word for it. We awoke Easter morning to 2” - 3” of new snow!

In keeping with this season of new growth, the coming budding and blossoms for the promise of growth and maturity, I’d like to offer a tool for personal growth. Let’s talk about one of our most powerful tools, that of various Spiritual Guides.

When we’re young most of us are taught that we have a guardian angel. Those of us focused on a spiritual path recognize this to be true as we journey through life.

For we were not meant to come to physical life and this planet alone. Each of us has more than one guide, we actually have a series of guides throughout our life to assist us on our journey.

Each of us has a life guide who remains with us throughout our lifetime; a guide who helps us achieve our life purpose, our life’s work. If you’re a writer, you may have as your guide an ancient scholar or shaman to help you write your books. As a healer, I am aware of healing angels, masters and guides. As soon as someone schedules an appointment with me I become aware of the aligning of various assistance. Usually before the time actually arrives to meet face-to-face I know who’s with us, for both my spiritual guidance as well as for my client.

Other guides come for a specific purpose and leave when that purpose is achieved.

Some may remain with us for a long time, others may be here for as short a time as a few days or weeks. As an example, suppose a person is going through a health crisis. They will receive guidance and direction for healing options from healing angels, guides, the subtle insistence to read a certain book, or the urge to research various herbal remedies.

All Spirit guides are fully positive beings. Any entity that suggests you do something against your will, or that you know to be wrong, is not a guide. As well, a guide never tells you what to do. They only offer an opinion; you always have the right to choose according to your free will. They never intervene or choose for you. They are instrumental in supervising, overseeing, providing protection, bringing gifts, and aiding your life’s works. Knowing information when you have no idea where it came from is another way you know your spirit guide(s) are aiding you.

A healer always has guides to help in healing. You may feel extra sets of hands during healing, receive assistance or nudges as to what colors to use, and where you are to place your hands. Receiving insight into deeper causes of illness, along with emotional and mental aspects is also a common benefit brought about from our healing angels.

An ancestral guide is one who can claim some sort of kinship with you, such as your dear Aunt Susie who died when you were ten. It may also appear in the form of a long-dead ancestor. In some schools of thought, these entities are seen as reincarnated guides, because they are the spirits of someone who loved us during their physical lifetime, or who had some sort of blood connection to our family.

A typical spirit guide or teacher guide may be archetypical, symbolic or representative of something else. For example, you may find your guide appears in the form of a warrior, a storyteller, or a wise woman. Typically, they appear to you for a purpose to teach you and guide you along a particular path. They may also introduce you to other archetypes along your journey, and help out with problem solving, based upon your needs. They are known to provide insight by way of dreams or meditation, and may only hang around as long as you need them, then move on.

Although many people have animals as spirit guides, often these entities are companions as well. It's not uncommon for a deceased pet to linger around, keeping you company through the grieving process. In some spiritual traditions, such as various Native American or shamanic paths, a person may have an animal totem, which provides teaching and/or protection.

The study of the metaphysical aspects of creatures is fascinating. An excellent book by Ted Andrews is “Animal Speak”. This talented author/teacher has written on the subject of the connections between animals, birds, fish, mammals, insects and reptiles. One of my favorites is a dog; I’ve always loved dogs and consider myself to be a ‘dog person’. (My black kitty. Andre, who’s sitting by my shoulder as I write, may take exception to this) As I wrote that sentence he moved to the other end of the couch.

So I’m a ‘cat person’ too! A dog brings companionship, comfort and unconditional love.

Their strength and loyalty is long standing. Throughout the day as you see a dog, a picture of a dog, or think of your dog, those traits are coming to your consciousness as a reminder.

Guardian Angels are with us before our conception, when we are in soul form. They accompany us through birth and are with us in every thought, word and event we experience in life. Guardian Angels are committed to us for the entire journey of our life - they never leave us and we are their only occupation. They are with us when we leave this life and beyond.

Talk to your Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, and totem animals, even before you know their names. Practice communicating with them and have patience. If you practice sensing, listening, envisioning, imagining and consciously intending to have lucid dreams with your guides, you will sense them ever more clearly and eventually hear, sense or know their names. Journaling is an excellent tool in building a relationship, as well as more unmistakably understanding their messages. Treat your guides just as you would your dearest, most loving friends. Take your time and gradually build your relationship with them. Remember that when you take one step toward them, they take 10 steps to you!

Above all, give gratitude. Our angels, guides, master teachers, totems, animal friends, the forests, vegetation, rivers, mountains and oceans all interact with us on some level. Thank every living thing for their participation in your life. They are willing and dedicated to assist us always. As we give thanks, they give us more and more love, direction, and support.

This week become more aware of your guides and angels. Consciously invite them into your life. As you become more finely tuned to their communications a whole new way of living opens to you. And, say thank you.
